Biography - Patty Lawlor, MLSPatty Lawlor has been Southern Ontario Library Services’ First Nations Consultant since 1999. In this capacity she provides information, training, and coaching to support First Nation communities throughout southern Ontario with the establishment and development of local public library service. She also creates opportunities, secures partnerships, and develops programs that promote awareness of and support for First Nation public library development. Patty has worked in the public library field since 1974. Past employers include Ontario’s Ministry of Culture, Hamilton Public Library, Wentworth Libraries, University of Toronto (Faculty of Library Science), Mohawk College of Applied Arts and Technology (Library and Information Technician Program), Indigo Books & Music, and Gale Canada. She first worked with aboriginal peoples through the Northwest Territories’ Department of Education. Patty is an active member of the Ontario Library Association and the Canadian Library Association, a frequent presenter at conferences, and a long time reviewer of children’s and young adult materials for Quill & Quire: Canada’s Magazine of Book News and Review. Patty earned her Bachelor of Arts (Canadian Studies) at McGill University and her Master of Library Science from The University of Western Ontario. In 2007, Ontario’s First Nations public library community honoured Patty with the presentation of a Friendship Feather through its Friends of Ontario’s First Nation Public Libraries’ Honour Program.
