SOLS CEO Salary Survey Report 2003

Salary Range

Of the 132 libraries that responded to the survey:

  • 95 quoted their salaries in an annual pay base and 37 on an hourly basis.
  • 91 had full-time CEO’s and 41 had part-time. (Full–time is defined here as 34.5 hours a week or more and part-time is 34 hours a week or less).
  • 92 said they had a salary range with a minimum and a maximum salary and 40 did not have a salary range and quoted a single (maximum) rate.
Minimum Salary

Of the 92 respondents that reported salary ranges, salary minimums were compared to salary maximums and the difference averaged $11,855 or 17.39%.

Annual Progression

Of the 92 respondents that had salary ranges, 4 did not state how they progress through the range. The remaining 88 respondents reported one of two types of annual progression.

  • By Percent
    18 progress by percentage increases of from 1% to 5% with an average of 3.58%
  • By Pre-determined Steps
    70 progress by pre-determined steps which number from 2 to 11 with an average of 5.22 steps.
Job Rate Maximum

6 respondents reported two maximums in their salary ranges. In the questionnaire, they were described as a job rate maximum and a higher one for exceptional performance or in response to market pressures. The differences between job rate maximum and the higher maximum range from $1,553 to $13,425 with an average of $6,587.50.
