ASSIGNMENT 2
Your assignment for this module relates to the Public Libraries
Act, R.S.O. 1990, chapter P.44. It is a very short assignment
but an important one. Please complete Part A if you work in a
municipal or county library and complete Part B if you work in a
First Nation community.
Part A

Using Part 1,
Sections 2 to 8 of the Act, describe the type of library
in which you work.

What population is
served by your library? Include both the local population and
contract population, if applicable.

State the current
number of library board members.

State the number of
municipal councillors on the board.

Who are the
officers of the board? (Use Section 15 of the Act as a
guide in listing the officers.)

Create a list of
the names of the current library board members.

Give a list of the
meeting dates for the last year. (use Section 16 of the
Act to check the number of meetings)
Part B (for those working in First Nation community libraries)

State the official name of your
library, for example, Ka:nhiote Tyendinaga Territory Public Library

library?

State the governance structure for
the library, for example, part of the Community Education Committee
or by a Library Board

List the officers or officials to
whom the library staff must report, for example, report to the Band
Education Coordinator
