ASSIGNMENT 4
Submit this assignment to your tutor by the date given on the
schedule accompanying this course. Please read the instructions
carefully.
There are two questions to this assignment. All students will
answer Question 1. In question 2, there are two parts --
select and complete only one (1) part depending on your
situation.
Question 1:
In a dictionary, look up these four words:
- library
- catalogue
- reference
- microfilm
Using your dictionary, complete the other columns across the chart.
You may need to consult the dictionary’s instructions to determine the
coding in the dictionary. A sample word has been entered to provide you
with a guide.

Question 2
Read the paragraph which follows.
Being interested in our patrons perception of our library, your
views are important to us. Thank you for pointing out the error in
our last community newsletter last month. In the normal course of
procedure that kind of obfuscation would be been obviated through
careful editing on our part. Due to the fact that you missed the
special projets as a result of that error, we would like to invite
you to the next session on the same subject which will be held next
month. If you are interested please make application by phone and
you will be registered at our expense.
You will notice that this paragraph has a number of spelling, usage,
punctuation and mechanics errors.
Part 1
Using a word processing program which has a spelling and a
grammar check, follow these instructions:
Enter the paragraph into the program. Run the spell check and the
grammar check. Record each of the changes suggested by the program on a
sheet of paper. Make all of the changes suggested then print the
paragraph. Submit both the list of suggestions and the final printed
paragraph to your tutor.
Part 2
If they do not have access to a microcomputer word processing
program, they should rewrite the paragraph, correcting the spelling,
usage, punctuation and mechanics errors You should receive the
re-written paragraph from these students.
