EXCEL: A certificate programme in
managing a small public library
|
E13-Circulation
ASSIGNMENT 2
| From Module 1, remember: Policies set general guidelines
for the administration of the library and protect the board
and staff. Keep in mind that once policies on these issues
are set by the library board, library staff can develop
procedures and make decisions within the realm of
established policies. Procedures are specific directions,
established by the staff, to implement the library policies.
Certain procedures may change over time but with policy in
place, the administration does not have to go to its board
each time a change is made. |
You have been assigned to train a new staff member who has never worked
in a library before. Your assignment is to write circulation procedures
so that the new employee can have something to refer to while you are
training him/her. The following areas must be covered in your written
circulation procedures:
- materials check-out
- materials check-in
- renewals
- reserves
- overdues
As you work your way through each function, remember that you must be
specific and you must be thorough. Please also be conscious of library
terminology with which the trainee may not be familiar.
Submit this assignment to your tutor by the date given on the
schedule accompanying this course and be sure to put your name on all
pages. Please include any forms that you have used or have deemed
appropriate for the training session.
