E14-Non-book materials

ASSIGNMENT 2

Submit this assignment to your tutor by the date specified on the schedule accompanying this course.

This assignment builds on Assignment 1 in which you were to write a description of your current non-book service and give reasons why you have non-book materials. In that assignment, you were also to describe a type of non-book material you would like to add to the collection. For Assignment 2, you will prepare a more detailed plan about non-book materials in your library.

Use the type of non-book material you selected for the assignment in Module 1. (It will be a type of non-book material not presently collected.) If you wish to add more than one type of non-book format, please do so, but be sure to complete #5 and #6 below for each of these.

In your plan, you should:

  1. briefly describe your community including special interest groups.

  2. briefly describe your library at the present time (e.g. annual circulation, popular materials, etc.)

  3. state the type of non-book material to be collected (i.e. DVDs, CDs, etc.) and describe the content of the collection (i.e. feature films, classical music, etc.)

  4. provide a collection policy statement

  5. state the number of titles you would purchase for the collection and how you would hope to pay for them (i.e. from regular budget, special donation from service club, etc.)

  6. briefly describe how you would organize the collection (i.e. intershelved, on special display racks, in a separate area, etc.)

Your report should be about 2 - 3 pages in length. Be sure to put your name on each page.
