Final examination

This is a "take home" examination. You may spend as much time as you wish to complete the exam and you may consult whatever resources you choose. There are two (2) questions to be completed and your completed exam should be three to four pages in length.

The examination must be returned to your tutor no later than seven days after you receive the examination. Be sure to put your name on all pages and to keep a copy of your completed exam.

QUESTION 1 -

Discuss the role of non-book media in public libraries. Explain the reasons why non-book materials would be collected in public libraries.

QUESTION 2 -

The board has decided that non-book material (video, audio, CD-ROM, microform) will definitely to be part of your library's collection in the next year.

If you do not have any non-book materials in your collection, pick one of the four listed above. Discuss how collecting this material and offering the services would have an impact on your library.

If you already have non-book materials, discuss how collecting non-book materials and offering the services have had an impact on your library.

You might wish to cover such topics as the impact on the budget, physical space required to store the material, processing, time required to select the materials, reserve system and overdue material
