ASSIGNMENT 3
For this assignment, read one (1) typical novel by a high
demand author. The book must have been published within the last five
years and must be part of your library’s collection. It must be one that
you have not read before.
Submit the following information about the book you have just read:

- a brief summary of the plot, noting the major characters,
setting and theme
- a brief note about any controversial points (e.g. features that
might be considered objectionable by some)
- a discussion of the characteristics that make it so popular
(e.g., earlier novels on a best seller list, recent newspaper
review)
In addition, in your written assignment, provide answers to these
questions:
- If possible, find out why the book was purchased/acquired for
your library’s collection. (for example, a review appeared in the
newspaper or always buy this author’s books).
- If possible, find out why this book is in such demand with your
patrons (e.g., library staff have been recommending it, patrons know
this author has a new book and are asking for it)
- Did you enjoy the book? Why? Be sure to include some of the
appeal factors discussed in this module.
- Do you think you would be able to suggest this book to a patron
as part of your readers’ advisory work?
Your answer to this assignment should be one to two pages long.
