ASSIGNMENT 5

Submit this assignment to your tutor/instructor by the date given on the schedule accompanying this course. Be sure to put your name on your submission and to keep a copy for your records.

Please note that there are two (2) questions and you must answer both questions.

Question 1

If you have an information file in your library or branch, write a short (no more than one page) description and be sure to include the following information:

  • how is it arranged? (e.g. by subject headings, Dewey Decimal Classification)
  • how is it housed? (e.g. filing cabinet, boxes on shelf)
  • how is it used?
  • circulation
  • arrangements for weeding

If you do not have an information file in your library or branch, write a description of how you would create such a collection.

Question 2

Use the information in the pages from the Canadian Periodical Index copied as an appendix referred to earlier in the module to answer the following questions.

A. Locate the article by Maryanna Lewycky about gas prices.

What is the title of her article?
In what periodical did it appear?
For that periodical, indicate:

Number
Page(s)

B. Who is the author of the article about the Levi Strauss Co.?

C. How long is the book review by John Lewis on Comets and asteroid impact?

D. Look under the heading — Libraries. What other related headings are listed under the “see also” reference? What standard subdivisions are used after the main term “Libraries”?

E. In this issue of the Canadian Periodical Index, how many articles are written about Liability for environmental damages?
