E5 - Library Marketing

Final Examination

This is a "take home" examination. It does not require the presence of an exam supervisor. You may spend as much time as you wish to complete the exam and you may consult whatever resources you choose. There are three (3) different tasks to be completed. The examination must be returned to your tutor no later than seven days after you receive the examination. Be sure to put your name on all pages and to keep a copy of your completed exam.

TASK 1 - PLANNING AN EXHIBIT

As the assignment for Module 3, you were asked to design a display for your library which promoted your collection. In the task for this examination, you will plan a special exhibit for one of the following:

  1. The work of a local artisan

  2. A specific type of material, e.g., a new video collection.

  3. A service in the library, e.g., a new automated circulation system or visiting library service

In a short report, describe your exhibit. Use the following headings as a guide:

  • Purpose
  • Theme
  • Target audience
  • Place
  • Content and design
  • Staffing and equipment needed

TASK 2 - FLYER

Create a one-sided, single page flyer (computer or hand-produced) to be handed out at your exhibit. On a separate sheet, specify the purpose of the flyer, target audience and number of copies of the flyer you would produce. Submit a copy of both the flyer and the separate sheet.

TASK 3 - MEDIA RELEASE

Write a media release announcing your exhibit. Submit it in the format and presentation that you would use in sending it to a newspaper. You may wish to use parts of Module 4 as a guide.
