E6-Basic Collection Development

ASSIGNMENT 2

Submit this assignment to your tutor by the date given on the schedule accompanying this course. Be sure to put your name on all the pages.

Your assignment for this module is to write a short report to describe your collection assessment procedures. Your report should be approximately two pages and should include the following sections:.

  1. Briefly describe the types of statistics currently gathered by your library.  For example, do you keep daily circulation statistics and are they broken down into subject categories? Do you keep interlibrary loan statistics or reference question statistics? What about library holdings (e.g., volumes and titles)?

  2. Explain how these statistics are currently being used to assess your collection. Suggest how you could improve upon them and describe other statistics that might be useful to you.

NOTE: If statistics of any kind are not kept at your library, you should combine parts 1 and 2 by listing the types of statistics which should be kept, and describing how they would be useful.

  1. Describe how you are currently collecting qualitative information. Explain whether or not you are satisfied with these methods (why or why not?). You might suggest other methods that could be more useful and indicate how the other methods might be used.
