ASSIGNMENT 5

Submit this assignment to your tutor by the date given on the schedule accompanying this course.

Your assignment for this module follows from the activity on page 19. For your assignment you are to describe the method(s) of selection and acquisitions in your library.

In one page or less, address the following questions:

  • Which method(s) do you (or the selector for your library or branch) use to select titles for your collection? (for example, use the publisher's catalogues which are sent to my library and take suggestions from the public)
  • Why is the current method being used? (for example, purchasing from the local bookstore supports a local business, allows me to view the material before purchasing & the owners are able to give me a 20% discount on all materials purchased)
  • What advantages and disadvantages do you see for your library with each method of selection?

On another page, describe the changes you could make to improve the selection procedures of your library and the benefits you would realize for your library from these changes.
