Your assignment for this module deals with the collection development policy. Answer the following questions.
- Is there a written collection development policy in your
library? Is the policy for the entire library or specifically for
children’s material? Include a copy if possible.
- What percentage of the annual budget of the library is spent on
children’s material? (Use an average year and include all formats)
- Where is most of the children’s material purchased? (ie. Library
Services Center, book store, publisher, etc.) Why?
- Is children’s material purchased in paperback format? Why or why
not?
- How many titles are weeded from the children’s collection in an
average year? What criteria is used for the weeding?
- What is the procedure in your library for handling challenged
materials? That is, how are patron complaints about a particular
book handled?
