ASSIGNMENT 3

Submit this assignment to your tutor by the date given on the schedule accompanying this course. Be sure to include your name on each page and to keep a copy of your assignment. There are two (2) parts to this assignment, be sure to complete both parts.

Part 1 - Reading a novel

For this assignment you must read one book. The book must be from the genres of western, romance, science fiction, fantasy or horror. Choose the genre with which you are least familiar. The book should be one that you have not read before. In a one to two page write-up, submit:

  • author, title and date
  • a brief summary of the plot, noting the major characters, setting and theme
  • a brief note about any controversial points (features that might be considered objectionable by some such as explicit sexual situations, frank language)
  • a discussion of the characteristics that make it representative of its genre


Part 2 - Mystery novel puzzle

As part of your readers’ advisory work, it is important to familiarize yourself with the works of a variety of authors. Based on the information provided in the module and in the appendixes, match the author with the correct sleuth. Place the letter corresponding to the sleuth beside the author’s name. For example: The sleuth in Raymond Chandler’s novels is U: Philip Marlowe
