E8-Collection development for young adults
Final examination
This examination is a ‘take home’ examination. It does not require
the presence of an exam supervisor. There is only one question. You may
spend as much time as you wish to complete the question in the
examination and you may consult whatever resources you choose.
The examination must be returned to your tutor no later than seven
days after you receive the examination. Be sure to put your name on all
pages and to keep a copy of your examination when you submit the
original. The exam should be at least 2 pages in length.
REPORT ON YOUNG ADULT SERVICES
In Module 1, you were asked to describe the needs of young adults in
your community and then discuss the implications for your collection.
You have now been asked to prepare a report on young adult services that
will be presented to the library board. Organize your report in the
following manner.
A. The present situation.
Describe the present collection for young adults, e.g. Do you have
material in a separate collection? with the junior fiction? with the
adult material? How many items could be identified as being for young
adults? How much of the library's budget is spent on young adult
materials?
B. The changes.
Include the goals for a young adult collection you listed in the
assignment for Module 1. Include information about what physical changes
you could make in the library? Changes in attitude? Promotion of the
service? What materials might be added? No money value is listed - you
can dream a bit but be a bit realistic at the same time.
