Training

SOLS provides a variety of training opportunities for library staff and trustees.

• We offer certificate programs, for managing small and medium-sized public libraries          (EXCEL and Advanced EXCEL), as well as (APLL), a leadership training program.
• Workshops and Webinars are scheduled throughout the year on a variety of topics of interest to library CEOs, managers and staff.
• As part of the $15 Million Investment in Public Libraries, we have also developed Compass, a website that acts as a guide to using funded electronic resources and provides various online training opportunities.

 SOLS often develops a training session to be delivered as part of another meeting:

• Clinics are sessions offered free of charge in conjunction with the eight areas Library Committees.  
• Kempenfelt is a training program targeted at branch staff in rural multi-branch systems
• Periodically training for library board members is included on the agenda of the Trustee Councils.
• The First Nations Gathering includes training sessions on relevant topics for First Nation librarians.
•  Links to training offered by other agencies and institutions are maintained in the Clearinghouse Training Resources for Library Staff
