Workshops and Webinars
Fall 2008 Workshops and Webinars
SOLS workshop topics are chosen in an attempt to address current issues
and needs. Requests and suggestions from workshop participants and other
SOLS clients are always welcome, and every attempt is made to address
these requests and suggestions in long term workshop planning. The
workshops are designed to provide training for public service staff,
managers and CEOs. Throughout the year workshops are offered on:
- Collection Development and Readers Advisory
- Children’s Services
- Reference and Information Services
- Technology Issues
- Library Management including legislative issues
- French Services
Webinars are usually one hour in length and staff can participate
from any location by using a phone to listen to the presenter and using
a web browser to view the presentation. Webinars are ideal for
introducing staff to new electronic resources such as those available
through Knowledge Ontario and COOL. Generally webinars are free
but staff must register.
Fees and payments
SOLS invoices libraries, in June and December, for the workshops their staff attended, unless other arrangements are made. The fee for individual workshops is based upon the actual expenses for presenters, lunch, etc., with a minimum fee of $25 for a half day workshop, and $50 for a full day workshop.
Workshops handouts
For some of the workshops, we are able to provide material compiled by
the presenter, after the workshop has run. Please see the SOLS

Cancellation Policy
A workshop fee will only be credited if a cancellation is received by SOLS a minimum of 10 days before the event, in the case of a full-day workshop, and a minimum of 5 days before the event, in the case of a half-day workshop.
Waiting list
If a session is FULL, SOLS will accept names for a waiting list, for any of our workshops. This helps us plan for additional sessions if warranted. Please e-mail your expression of interest to :
