Making the Case for your Building Project
Part 1: Data Collection as the Foundation to Effective Leadership of a
Building Project
This webinar, based on the SOLS publication Making the Case for Your
Building Project, will focus on the crucial role of data collection as the
basis for a successful building project. Using data for decision making
eliminates the danger of relying on fleeting personal impressions that may
or may not be accurate. Data also provides convincing justification for your
decisions to Municipal Council and the community. The session will emphasize
the importance of conducting a thorough information gathering process that
identifies the facility requirements as they relate to the library’s
strategic plan and the future needs of the community.
Part 2: The Library Building Program as a Roadmap to a Successful New
Building
This webinar enlarges upon the outline of the sample library building
program that is included in the SOLS publication, Making the Case for Your
Building Project. It focuses on detailing space requirements, library
functions and their interrelationships and the preparation of room data
sheets. A library building program clearly summarizes the facility’s needs
on several levels, providing pertinent information necessary to guide the
design professional throughout the decision-making process. The library
building program is a vital communication tool that helps the librarian
maintain her/his leadership of the project and ensure that the finished
facility reflects the needs of the community.
Webinars are “live” training sessions in which
participants view the presentation through their Web-browser and listen
to the trainer via telephone.
