Music and Rhymes for Storytimes with Debbie CarrollWorkshop #1"Here is the mountain, here is the town. Here are the streets that go 'round and 'round..." From fingerplays and peek-a-boos to marches and dances, music not only enhances group enjoyment, but also strengthens verbal communication and pre-literacy skills in young children. Learn how the attributes of music echo the building blocks of reading and writing. Discover why tunes and lyrics, in combination with movement, instruments, puppets and books, are a vital part of a well-constructed storytime. Whether you are new or seasoned at the art of leading storytime, take this hands-on opportunity to add beautiful, fun and age-appropriate songs and rhymes to your repertoire. Our presenter, Debbie Carroll, has been teaching and performing early childhood music and leading workshops for teachers, librarians and parenting groups for almost 20 years. She graduated from the University of Western Ontario with degrees in Musical Arts and Education, and attained the Advanced Certificate in Early Childhood Music Education from Ryerson University and the Royal Conservatory of Ontario. Her latest children's CD, "Simply Beautiful", was nominated for a 2007 Canadian Folk Music Award. Debbie is a member of CANSCAIP and is on the board of the Early Childhood Music Association of Ontario. Visit Debbie's website at www.debbiecarroll.com .
