Ontario Summer Jobs – main site

Program Summer Experience
 
Purpose Provides non-profit organizations, municipalities and First Nations communities with funding to create meaningful summer employment opportunities for youth.
Eligibility Youth aged 15 to 24 (29 if disabled)
Duration 6 to 8 weeks
Deadline
Funding provided Provide 90% funding (100% funding to First Nations communities) at minimum wage. Each job will last six to eight weeks, based on a 36.25 hour work week. As of February 1, 2008, the wage rates are $8.00/hr for youth employed in Special Employment programs

Program Summer Jobs Service
Ontario. Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities
Purpose Provides wage subsidies for businesses and community organizations who employ students for the summer
Eligibility Youth aged 15 to 24 (29 if disabled)
Duration up to 16 weeks from April to September
Deadline no deadline – first come, first served should call early, by March or April
Funding provided wage subsidy of $2.00 an hour
Application process Most of the organizations that deliver Job Connect also help students find summer jobs through the Summer Jobs Service (SJS) and employers find summer help. Call the toll-free Employment Ontario Hotline at 1-800-387-5656, or (416) 326-5656 in Toronto, for the name of the organization delivering Job Connect in your area.

The program is administered by a variety of institutions, for example Durham College.

Federal

Program Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) an initiative of the Summer Work Experience program

Information for Employers will be available at www.servicecanada.gc.ca  on February 2, 2009 or contact your local Youth Information Line at 1 800 935-5555.

Purpose Wage subsidies to private, public and not-for-profit employers to create career-related summer jobs for students
Eligibility Students aged 15 - 30
Duration 6 – 16 weeks
Deadline
The application period for Canada Summer Jobs 2009 will be from February 2 to February 27, 2009.
Funding provided Not-for-profit employers are eligible for up to 100 per cent of the provincial/territorial adult minimum hourly wage. 
Application process  Employers will be able to submit their applications online, by mail, by fax, or in person to any Service Canada Centre.  Application assessment phase will be completed in April for student hiring in May. 

Program Young Canada Works, Department of Canadian Heritage
Information for employers
Purpose Create jobs for young Canadians coast to coast, encourage understanding and appreciation of Canada’s achievements, build connections among Canadians
Eligibility Students between 16 and 30
Duration 6-16 weeks
Deadline The deadline date for submitting applications is February  2, 2009
Funding provided Funding for staff only. Minimum contribution of 25% by library is suggested. Library must pay all mandatory costs.
Application process Must submit proposal for project that will provide job opportunities for youth in areas such as research, automation, exhibits, digitization etc. Projects should be outside of daily operations. Some examples include summer reading programs, recon, Internet training. Projects are chosen by the value of the experience for the student. If the library contributes more than the minimum, the project is more likely to be chosen.

Program CAP Youth Employment Program  HRDC

Purpose Help young Canadians gain necessary skills in the field of information technology, interpersonal communications, as well as critical and creative thinking. Activities include delivering Internet training sessions; researching and developing Web sites; drafting publicity materials; organizing information fairs and special events; providing technical support to the CAP site

Funding provided $8.50/hr plus 17.5% in lieu of benefits
