Downloading MARC records from AMICUSRevised: November 8, 2004 1. In order to download MARC records from Amicus, you must log in to AMICUS' "Registered User" area at http://amicus.collectionscanada.ca/aaweb/aalogine.htm . If you are not a registered user, you can learn more about how to register at http://www.collectionscanada.ca/amicus/006002-124-e.html 2. Once you are logged in, search for your record using the default "basic" search, or the "Advanced" search options. 3. Select the record(s) you want to download by ticking the box beside each record, then clicking on "Save Selections". 4. Click on "Download" to have AMICUS convert the records to MARC 21 format before downloading. AMICUS will display a brief download list, and you will need to click on "Download" a second time to begin the process. At this point, your browser displays an output box with instructions to allow you to specify where to store the downloaded record(s). (For Netscape, click the Save File button and then specify a file name. Netscape may suggest the extension .html for your file name. You can change this to plain text (.txt) or another extension). 6. Click the browser's Back button to return to searching AMICUS. Notes: When viewed, the downloaded file will display as a continuous string of data. The file can be imported into a local system which handles MARC 21 data; the import and use of data in a local system is the responsibility of your local system provider. |
