About the Strategic Directions Council

The Strategic Directions Council (SDC) was established in 1990 as an outcome of the first public library strategic plan, One Place to Look. In 1998, it was established as a corporation without share capital under Part III of the Corporations Act.
Mandate

Public Library Strategic Plan as a foundation, the SDC  provides coordinated, cooperative, province-wide leadership and direction to implement an ongoing strategic planning process and to respond to issues of immediate concern to public libraries.

SDC  encourages participation and support for province-wide initiatives as identified in the strategic planning and implementation process.

SDC coordinates the public library community’s response to current province-wide issues of concern.

Mission

To further develop public library services for the people of Ontario.

Current Status

With the establishment of the Federation of Ontario Public Libraries in January 2005, SDC is currently dormant.
