Small Library KitsA few years ago, SOLS staff compiled a list of “kits” which covered topics of interest at that time. The kits were available in English and French. Over time, some of the kits have been replaced with other kits, and some are no longer available. A few kits, shown below, have been posted on the SOLS website. Boolean Searching (in .pdf) - Most automated catalogues, including the INFO data base, rely on Boolean logic for searching more than one term. This kit will explain how to use it effectively.
It
is our plan to reissue some of the remaining kits in the near future. They
will be available in electronic form only in this section of the
website. The reissued titles will
be: Enhanced
Fiction Access -
Discusses the reasons why a library should consider adding subject descriptors
to catalogue records for fiction and reviews the methods for doing
so.
Annual
Reports - How to assess the
need for an annual report; and tips for producing an effective one
Initiating a Friends of the Library Group (in .pdf) - Discusses how a Friends group can assist a library and outlines how to set one up.
Amalgamating Friends of the Library Groups (January 2001) - This kit is of interest to those who wish to amalgamate their Friends groups by some means. The focus of this kit is to examine options for amalgamating Friends groups, incorporating the experiences of groups that have gone through or are in the process of amalgamating their Friends groups. |
