Subscribing to the RSS feed using a browser
Many newer browsers offer the ability to subscribe to a feed in the same
way you bookmark a website. Here are some snapshots of how to
subscribe to the SOLS RSS Feed in Internet Explorer 7.0. (Other browsers
may have a similar
process. To see a list of which browser versions support RSS, see
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_web_browsers).
1. There are a few ways to subscribe to our feed from IE 7.0.
Choose any of the following 3 methods:
- You can go to the SOLS
News RSS Feed XML File in your browser
- If you encounter an orange RSS button on our site, you can click
on it. (Note: The orange button on our home page will take you
to a brief description of RSS at
http://www.sols.org/publications/rss/rssfeed.htm, before giving
you the option to subscribe)
- The browser may automatically detect a feed on our website, and
will highlight an
icon
on your browser's navigation bar. Click on this button to subscribe.
2. You'll
be taken to a preview page that shows you the feed, and then asks if you
want to subscribe to it.

3. Click on "Subscribe to this feed" at the top of the page. A pop
up window will appear - click on "Subscribe" again.

4. Once you have subscribed, the feed appears in the IE "Favourites" centre (i.e..
your bookmarks), under the "Feeds" section. You can click on the link to read the feed.
Items in bold indicate feed waiting to be read. If you hover your mouse over the link, it tells you how many "new" news
items are waiting to be read.
