Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB)The CNIB recommends that visually impaired clients borrow materials directly from the CNIB Library. The service is free of charge, and they will send the materials directly to the home of the client. CNIB Library materials are sent to and from the CNIB location in Toronto, postage free by Canada Post anywhere in Canada. This would save the public library the charge of an ILL, and the client may even receive items faster, since they'll send the books directly to the person instead of the public library. Please ask the patron to call the toll free number of the CNIB Library and let a Reader Advisor know that they would like to register for Library services. Please let your patrons know that if they call the CNIB, they may receive the voicemail messaging system. The library is a very busy department, with fewer than 6 staff, but if the patron leaves their full name and phone number with the area code, a CNIB staff member can usually return the call within 24 hours.
