Genre Fiction Survey

(Via LJ online) Are cozy mysteries about crime-solving witches and canine sleuths flying off the shelves in your library? Or do your patrons prefer
harder-edged crime novels set in exotic lands? Library Journal is interested in learning more about mystery collections in public libraries.
This brief survey will help LJ solve the big picture on mysteries: how they fare now and where they are headed.
Results of this survey will be revealed in an April 15 feature of Library Journal. Please complete when you have 5 or 10 minutes.

The SOLS web site will be updated over the next few weeks with a new design.
The organization of the site and the page URLS will stay the same, so any bookmarked pages you have will
still work. We will make the changes in sections, so there may be periods of time where parts of the site
have our "old" look, and other sections have our "new" look. We thank you for your patience during this

college libraries, law libraries, medical libraries, corporate libraries, special libraries, private libraries. But really there's
just One Big Library, with branches all over the world." - Wendy Newman. A one-day gathering June 27, 2008.

Delivery route schedules for the week of May, 26, 2008 - SOLS Staff Retreat

Being spread across southern Ontario it is important for our staff
to meet periodically as a group. Our next full staff get-together is coming up on
May 26th - 28th. All staff will be involved and the office will be closed for most of
this time. For the drivers to attend the staff meeting, SOLS delivery routes will be
modified the week of Monday May 26 to Friday May 30, 2008. Most libraries will receive
only one day of delivery on either Thursday or Friday

See Notes Inter-branch delivery service will also be reduced this week.

Quiet, Please: Dispatches from a Public Librarian By Scott Douglas, April 2008

Review: Though Douglas starts out with what he later recognizes as a naive
and hopeful attitude about helping people evaluate resources and think critically about things
like current events and mass media, the narrative soon changes its focus to explore how the
library as an institution can hope to stay alive in modern times. (VIA PopMatters)
