TD Summer Reading Club books on Overdrive

The latest SOLS Signal highlighted the upcoming TD Summer Reading Club. Intrigued by just about anything with the word “summer” (as I gaze out my window at a fresh 3 inches of snow), I went to their website, and found a list of 85 English-language titles that are recommended for all ages. These include non-fiction titles, children’s picture books, novels, and chapter books.

In an effort to support public libraries offering this vastly popular program, I thought I would purchase as many titles from this list as I could in e-book format. When the Summer Reading Club is in progress, I will post the OverDrive booklist to the children’s reading room.

Great idea, right? However, only 30 titles out of 85 are available in e-book format, which I found disappointing. It seems that many children’s publishers simply do not deal with OverDrive, limiting our access to these titles. Other publishers offer a limited selection of titles, not their entire backlist. Of the full recommended list, a variety of titles had already been purchased, and those that were not yet owned by the consortium have been added to a cart that will be purchased by the time you read this.

Some of our most recent purchases include picture books:

Novels:

Stick Dog by Tom Watson Poster

And non-fictions titles:

The Worst Case Scenario Survival Handbook: Gross Junior Edition, by David Borgenicht (Author), Nathaniel Marunas (Author), Robin Epstein (Author) Poster

The list of titles not in the OverDrive collection will be kept, and checked periodically. Hopefully, more titles will become available over time.
