Using the RC App for Reading Clubs

This is a guest post, from Heather Alblas, Acting Branch Manager at the Mount Albert branch of the East Gwillimbury Public Library.

The summer months are some of the busiest at our library and the Summer Reading Club is one of our annual programming hi-lights. A tremendous amount of work goes into coordinating this Club and its programs.  So, as a smaller system we are always looking for ways to increase our efficiency.  By introducing the RC App, we have enjoyed the benefits of using an online Reading Club registration system to ease our workload.  Here are some of the reasons we made the switch:

  • Reduces staff hours manually tracking and inputting data

We no longer sort through papers and excel spreadsheet to organize our data.  The App does this for us, and as a result, there is increased accuracy.

  • Expands our reporting options

The App retains data from previous years making it easy to compare numbers to measure trends, improvements, and shortfalls.  We can track many fields from number of children signed up per school to number of prize benchmarks reached.

  • Provides support

Counting Opinions includes IT support with the purchase of their App.  They assist with needs that arise including set-up, customization, and troubleshooting.  As a small system with limited IT staff, we find the ongoing support very beneficial.

We are in the final stages of launching the app once again for our 2016 Summer Reading Club. Check it out this summer at egpl.ca.
