Free coding books? Yes, thanks to the CanCode Program from Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED) Canada! The CanCode program is investing $50 million over two years to provide educational opportunities for coding and digital skills development to Canadian youth (K-12).
One of their many funded initiatives is TakingIT Global’s “Code to Learn” program. As part of TakingIT Globals’ grant, they are distributing the book Getting Started with Coding. Public and school libraries are entitled to free copies of this book . The book is in a “For Dummies” style aimed at children 9 to 16, and is available in English and French. The coding app presented in the book is MicroWorlds EX, a text-based coding environment. All items will be shipped to your library directly at no charge via Canada Post.
Add it to your collection, use it in your makerspace, or order multiple copies and start a coding club for kids!
