LET'S TALK LIBRARIES

A blog from the Southern Ontario Library Service

Support Indie Authors with the Ontario Author Project contest!

SOLS is pleased to join BiblioBoard, Library Journal and other Ontario libraries for the Ontario Author Project contest. Part of the North American “Indie Author” project, the contest seeks the best indie published eBooks in each participating region.

The Ontario Author Project gives librarians a chance to engage with a growing group of fresh literary voices, and also an opportunity to play an active role in the discovery and promotion of new works.  For indie-published authors, the contest is a fantastic prospect to elevate their careers!

How do authors submit?

The contest will accept submissions April 1, 2019 through May 31, 2019 at https://indieauthorproject.librariesshare.com/ontario/

Each book that is submitted to the contest must be:

  • Independently-published
  • In the category of adult or young adult fiction
  • Written by an Ontario resident
  • Available in either PDF or ePUB format

What do the winners get?

Winners in each category will receive $500 as well as:

  • Inclusion in Indie Ontario a digital collection of local authors on BiblioBoard Library
  • Honors at the 2020 Public Library Association Conference in Nashville, TN
  • Opportunities to promote the winning title at Ontraio public libraries
  • Inclusion in a full page spread in Library Journal, one of America’s oldest and most renowned trade publications for library news

What can libraries do to help?

  • Promote the contest with flyers and on websites/social media. Logos, posters and more are available on the Ontario Author Project page at https://indieauthorproject.com/ontario/
  • Encourage people to sign up as judges – or encourage staff to be judges! (Heck, we know good reads, right?).  The judging information and signups are at https://indieauthorproject.com/judges/.  BiblioBoard will provide access to the titles, train the judging committee members, assign titles, organize check-in calls, and ensure the committee remains on schedule,

We hope you take this opportunity to support independent writers in your community and across Ontario!
