Please read these Terms of Use carefully before using the www.sols.org website, administered by the Southern Ontario Library Service.  Your access to and use of the site is conditional on your acceptance of and compliance with these Terms.  These Terms apply to all visitors, users and others who access or use the site.

By accessing or using the site you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you disagree with any part of the terms then you may not access the site.

Accounts

Www.sols.org does not require a login to visit the site or browse the content, with the exception of materials that may require password protection for contractual reasons, such as consortia purchasing pricing information.  This site does not collect any personal identifying information about individuals except when specifically and knowingly provided by such individuals (such as name, contact information or other registration information). Personal identifying information provided by individuals will be used only in connection with or for such other purposes as are described at the point of collection.  However, lisetserv subscribers and members should be aware that when they voluntarily disclose personal information (e.g., user name, e-mail address) on SOLS listservs, that information can be collected and used by others and may result in unsolicited messages from other posters or parties.

If you are required to sign up for service or feature provided on the site, you must provide us information that is accurate, complete, and current at all times. Failure to do so constitutes a breach of the Terms, which may result in immediate termination of your account on our site.

You are responsible for safeguarding the password that you use to access the lisetservs.  You agree not to disclose your password to any third party. You must notify us immediately upon becoming aware of any breach of security or unauthorized use of your account.

Accessibility

This site is committed to fostering an inclusive and barrier-free environment for its visitors, as per the SOLS accessibility policy.  If for any reason you require materials in an alternate format, please contact us at 1-800-387-5765, or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and we will attempt to convert material as needed.  There is no charge for this service.  If information or communications are unconvertible, an explanation along with a summary of the information or communications will be provided.

Privacy

The SOLS web site will make every reasonable effort to ensure that personal information about its users and their activities remains confidential, as per the privacy principles outlined in the SOLS Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy policy.

Data collection

The SOLS web site uses session-based cookies to monitor which pages are visited and the type of searches done on them.  We use Google Analytics to review our statistics, and to learn more about the search behaviours of our visitors, and the technology (browsers, mobile devices, etc.) that you use.   There is no attempt to associate any visitor IP address with an individual user.  If you prefer to disable Google Analytics tracking, Google has a browser add-on that automatically prevents any usage information from being sent to Google Analytics. 

Acceptable use policy

You are responsible for the content you post to this web site.  We reserve the right to delete, remove, or not accept, any content you submit that we believe is objectionable or that:

  • may be unlawful, harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, libelous, hateful or discriminatory;
  • impersonates any person or entity, or falsely states or otherwise misrepresents your affiliation with a person or organization;
  • may infringe another person's intellectual property rights, including copyright;
  • is personal information published without the consent of the person to whom the information relates;
  • is unrelated to the content of the site or links to material that is not directly related to the discussion on the site;
  • is commercial promotion or spam;
  • violates any law or material not in keeping with the safe and welcoming environment of sols.org

While we will attempt to remove or edit any such objectionable content, it may not be possible to review all content immediately. Therefore, you acknowledge that all content submitted this site, other than content submitted by us, expresses the views and opinions of the person submitting it and we bear no liability for the content.  In accordance with our policies and procedures, we may take appropriate action in response to incidents and issues up to, and including, legal action.

Links To Other Web Sites

Our site may contain links to third-party web sites or services that are not owned or controlled by SOLS.  We do not do reciprocal linking, but will evaluate any external web sites suggested as possible external links by the terms of our Professional Information Policy.

The SOLS web site has no control over, and assumes no responsibility for, the content, privacy policies, or practices of any third party web sites or services. You further acknowledge and agree that SOLS  shall not be responsible or liable, directly or indirectly, for any damage or loss caused or alleged to be caused by or in connection with use of or reliance on any such content, goods or services available on or through any such web sites or services.

All information on or accessed through this website, including but not limited to text, graphics, source codes, photographs, trademarks, and logos, is protected under Canadian and international copyright laws.

SOLS has the discretion to update this policy at any time.  We encourage users to frequently check this page for any changes. You acknowledge and agree that it is your responsibility to review this privacy policy periodically and become aware of modifications.
