Loan Stars: The Canadians keep coming!

You're browsing through the monthly Loan Stars Top Picks lists, or the Loan Stars catalogues, and a maple leaf or Canadian flag catches your eye.

Why is it there? It has one simple purpose: to mark Canadian-authored titles. We love spreading the news about Canadian authors with this icon, and it comes as no surprise that library staff have also shown their love and support for Canadian talent.

Of the 170 Loan Stars Top Picks (that's 17 lists, from May 2016 to October 2017), more than a third of the titles have been Canadian-authored. That's a whopping 64 books, or 36% of the list. You can check out our Goodreads shelf of all the Canadian-authored Loan Stars Top Picks to find some great CanLit to add to your reading list.

Have you met these Loan Stars?

Every month, we welcome 10 new Top Picks through Loan Stars, the readers' advisory service that allows Canadian library staff to collaboratively select their favourite forthcoming titles.

But have you heard of these less well-known, but equally amazing, Loan Stars Top Picks?

Have you heard about Loan Stars?

Created specifically for the Canadian library community, Loan Stars is a readers' advisory service that allows library staff across Canada to collaboratively nominate their favourite forthcoming titles. Library staff have the opportunity to read books prior to their publication and vote for the titles they think their patrons will love. The program launched in spring 2016 and over 150 books have since earned the title of Loan Stars top pick.

Curious if your favourite titles made the cut? Check out all the lists in our top 10 archive. You can also sign up for our mailing list to receive the monthly top 10 lists, reading recommendations, and more great updates!
